Court of Appeal will soon respond to appeals against verdict in the murder of journalist and publisher Slavko Ćuruvija

The Court of Appeal in Belgrade has received appeals against the first instance verdict that convicted four former members of the State Security services to a total of 100 years in prison for their participation in the 11th April 1999 murder of Slavko Ćuruvija, journalist and owner of newspapers Dnevni Telegraf and Evropljanin.

The case arrived at the Court of Appeal and, in accordance with procedures, has been forwarded to the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office for a statement, and once the prosecution makes a statement, the court should determine a date for the public hearing to consider the appeals and the 5th April judgements of the Special Court.

In the first instance verdict, Radomir Marković, the then head of the Serbian State Security Service, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for inciting the murder of Ćuruvija.

As co-perpetrators who prepared and carried out the murder of the journalist, the then head of the Belgrade State Security Centre, Milan Radonjić, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, while State Security reserve service member Miroslav Kurak, who is on the run, and State Security operative Ratko Romić were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
