Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation monitoring: pro-government tabloids’ portals post an average of one article opposing critical journalists per day.

September 16, 2022

Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation monitoring concluded that almost 200 attacks against critical media were published on the portals of pro-government tabloids over the course of four months. The portals published an average of one article per day in which they discredited, insulted or targeted those who write media texts that are critical of the authorities, first and foremost journalists of Nova, N1 and Danas.

The Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation recorded 197 attacks against critical journalists in 132 articles published on the portals of tabloid newspapers that the Press Council has dubbed champions of violating the Code of Journalists: Alo.rs, Republika.rs (Srpski telegraf portal), Informer.rs, Kurir.rs and Objektiv.rs.

The monitoring was conducted from April to July 2022.

Those attacked most frequently were the newspaper, portal and television station Nova (at least 66 times), TV N1 (at least 47 times) and daily newspaper Danas (at least 41 times).

The attacks also didn’t bypass Cenzolovka, NIN, Nedeljnik, Vreme, Deutsche Welle, Voice of America etc.

The monitoring project’s key assessment is that there are justified suspicions that the noted tabloids receive complete articles from some source, which they subsequently adapt to suit their editorial policy and publish as such.
