The perpetrators of an attack on radio host Daško Milinović have received first-instance prison sentences totalling three years and four months.
Milinović, author of the popular podcast “Alarm with Daško and Mlađa”, was attacked one morning in April while heading to work. First sprayed in the eyes with tear gas, the two young assailants then attacked him with a stick.
The attackers were soon apprehended, along with the individual who incited their assault. The epilogue of the trial saw the lead defendant sentenced to one year and two months in prison, while his accomplice received a 10-month sentence and the instigator behind the assault was sentenced to serve one year and four months behind bars.
Speaking after the pronouncement of the verdict, Milinović said that it was important that the verdict was clear, and that he was surprised by the swift reaction of the judiciary.
Veran Matić, chairman of the Commission for the Investigation of Murders of Journalists, viewed this verdict as “a kind of judicial felicitation on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Working Group for the Security and Protection of Journalists”.
