Two Journalists Attacked at Protest in Belgrade

September 18, 2017

During protests in front of the building of pro-government broadcaster TV Pink, supporters of the right-wing parliamentary party Dveri attacked two journalists from this television station who were reporting from the event.

One was hit in the back of the head from behind, while the other was knocked unconscious. Both are being treated at the hospital in Belgrade.

In their press release issued immediately after the event, Dveri stated that no incident occurred during the protest, claiming that “if there was an incident after the protest, it is the responsibility of the security guards of the owner of the TV Pink that stayed on the location”.

Journalists’ associations condemned the attacks and demanded the perpetrators be prosecuted.

This is just the latest in a series of attacks on journalists over recent months. On September 8 the editorial offices of the Maglocistac portal in the northern Serbian city of Subotica received messages on their website that they would be “slaughtered like rabbits”.. The case was reported to the police but there is no official reaction to date.
