Gorica Nikolin, a journalist of Novi Sad-based portal 021.rs and Radio 021, received threats and insults via Instagram over a news article about cases of the misuse of art studios at Novi Sad’s Petrovaradin Fortress.
An anonymous user sent the Instagram account of Radio 021 a link to an article from this January in which the journalist established that only a small number of users of the ateliers of the 18th century fortress, famous for hosting the annual Exit festival, have rental contracts, while other individuals use these spaces to generate revenue. The link message was followed by other messages with vulgar content, some of which could be considered threatening.
Radio 021 reported the case to both the police and the office of the prosecutor, but also journalists’ associations.
The Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina and the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia condemned the threats against this journalist and called on the prosecution to take the required legal action.
