Fresh police attacks against journalists of independent media houses

Police officers attacked Dragan Jeković, a cameraman of independent broadcaster Television Nova S, in front of the Kraljevo premises of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party on 29th July. Footage shows members of the police hitting the Nova S cameraman on the hands with truncheons several times, while he was in the process of doing his job.

During the blockade of the motorway, a member of the Gendarmerie police unit attacked N1 journalist Nenad Nešić and cameraman Aleksandar Cvrkotić, as well as attempting to take the camera.

Journalist Dragoljub Đorđević was detained while performing his job on 25th July. After giving a statement to the public prosecutor, he was remanded into custody and held overnight for his alleged participation in the motorway blockade, for which a report against him was filed.

Two pro-regime tabloid newspapers published a photograph and the private address of journalist Žarko Bogosavljević around 23rd July, as well as the image and address of Dinko Gruhonjić, a journalist and professor of journalism studies at the University of Novi Sad. Their addresses were initially shared in pro-Russian Telegram group “Eastern Future”, from where it was taken by the pro-regime tabloid newspapers.

Posters reading “foreign mercenary” and “liar”were plastered in the central Serbian city of Čačak targeting journalist and editor of two media outlets Stojan Marković.
