Far-right movement continues targeting media outlets

May 15, 2023

Leaflets containing images of the leaders of Serbia’s opposition parties, together with former Croatian President Franjo Tuđman and former BiH Presidency Chairman Alija Izetbegović, alongside the logos of daily newspaper Danas, TV N1 and TV Nova S, and the caption “Fifth column”, were delivered to the entrance of Danas’s editorial department. The leaflets were signed “Conservative Movement Naši” [Naši means Ours], a far-right organisation led by Ivan Ivanović, a religious studies teacher. This same organisation previously attacked the Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina and journalists Dinko Gruhonjić and Teofil Pančić, among others.

The same organisation “signed” posters that were mounted on walls in the pedestrian zone in Kragujevac city centre and included the image of Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s chief propagandist, along with the Goebbels’ quote “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it”. These posters also include the logo of TV N1.

Veran Matić, a member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists, says that leaflets cannot be perceived as a threat in the current atmosphere. Media/Journalists’ associations also responded.
