Charges for endangering the safety of local journalist rejected

December 16, 2019

The prosecution has dismissed a criminal complaint filed against an individual accused by Inđija cafe journalist Verica Marinčić of harassing and intimidating her during the summer.

This Inđija-based journalist began experiencing problems after publishing a photo of the man on a local portal and on Facebook, after which she claims he started threatening her and harassing her at work, on the street and in front of the house where she lives.

Footage from the city’s CCTV cameras was of no use to the police, as they were only partially operational. The prosecution ultimately found that there was no evidence that the suspect threatened to attack the life or body of the complainant.

Research portal VOICE reported that the man suspected of threatening the journalist is a member of the local branch of Russian motorcycle club Night Wolves, which is known for being close to President Vladimir Putin, and that he frequently attends local government celebrations.
