SĆF lawyers seeks dismissal of lawsuits filed by former state security personnel

April 30, 2025

The opening of the trial against the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation on the basis of lawsuits filed by former officials and members of the State Security Department saw the lawyer representing the Foundation request that the lawsuits be dismissed.

She stressed that these are malicious SLAPP suits intended to prohibit the free expression of opinions on certain topics.

The Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation is being sued by three people who were previously accused, convicted in the first instance, and subsequently acquitted of Ćuruvija’s murder.

The lawsuit against the SĆF, which was founded by the daughter and son of the murdered journalist, was filed in response to a statement published following the February 2024 acquittal.

The three plaintiffs are each seeking compensation of 500,000 dinars due to “emotional anguish, defamation and the violating of their human rights”.

The judge will decide on the lawyer’s dismissal request at a later date.
