{"id":9777,"date":"2024-09-16T13:32:19","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T11:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=9777"},"modified":"2024-09-16T13:32:19","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T11:32:19","slug":"mfrr-alarmingly-poor-state-of-media-freedom-in-serbia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/en\/mfrr-alarmingly-poor-state-of-media-freedom-in-serbia\/","title":{"rendered":"MFRR: alarmingly poor state of media freedom in Serbia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September 16, 2024<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>According to the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) platform, the state of media freedom in Serbia has been \u201calarmingly bad\u201d in the first six months of this year.<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe state of media freedom in Serbia is alarming, with verbal abuse accounting for the majority, or 63.2% of recorded incidents,\u201d states the report for the first six months of the year, in which the MFRR recorded 38 alerts involving 51 individuals or media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>The MFRR provides a detailed description of the case of Ana Lali\u0107 Hegedi\u0161 and Dinko Gruhonji\u0107, journalists and leaders of the Independent Journalists\u2019 Association of Vojvodina, who were \u201cunprecedented targets\u201d in terms of death threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese two have received thousands of online death threats and threats from politicians. The situation worsened further when graffiti containing a direct death threat was written on the building where Gruhonji\u0107 resides with his family, while Ana Lali\u0107 Hegedi\u0161 was insulted in the building where she lives,\u201d explains the MFRR.<\/p>\n<p>The report notes that, between January and April, journalists of Belgrade-based Television N1 reported four cases of online harassment, all of which included death threats.
