{"id":9681,"date":"2024-06-17T10:10:27","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T08:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/?p=9681"},"modified":"2024-06-14T16:50:20","modified_gmt":"2024-06-14T14:50:20","slug":"former-official-of-serbian-state-security-sues-slavko-curuvije-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slavkocuruvijafondacija.rs\/en\/former-official-of-serbian-state-security-sues-slavko-curuvije-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Official of Serbian State Security Sues Slavko \u0106uruvije Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>June 17, 2024<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>A former head of the Belgrade Centre of the State Security Service, Milan Radonji\u0107 \u2013 one of the four individuals charged with the murder of Slavko \u0106uruvija and acquitted in February by a decision of the Court of Appeal \u2013 has sued the Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation over a press release in which the S\u0106F expressed its disagreement with the verdict.<\/h2>\n<p>The Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation responded by releasing a statement in which it notes that \u201ctwenty-five years after the \u0106uruvija murder, after nine years of court proceedings, two first-instance judgements finding the defendants guilty and the final acquittal of the defendants due to a lack of evidence, the crime against this journalist and owner of Dnevni telegraf and Evropljanin remains unpunished and unresolved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now witnessing an attempt to eradicate any memory of \u0106uruvija and silence the voices that will not consent to impunity and allow things to be forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot accept that the judicial truth, which asserts only that there is no truth to be known, should be my truth as well. I cannot cleanse my mind and heart of everything I have learned, heard and seen over these long 25 years and pretend that I have not arrived at an \u201cextrajudicial\u201d truth. The same truth that the judiciary would have reached \u2013 in another country, in another time,\u201d says Jelena \u0106uruvija, daughter of Slavko \u0106uruvija, speaking with regard to the lawsuit filed by former State Security Service official Milan Radonji\u0107 against the foundation which she founded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch a truth is unspeakable for our courts. For our political reality, such a truth is unnecessary, even harmful. It is too burdensome. It is easier to forbid me from knowing the truth; to threaten me into forgetting it. Or at least to silence me.
