On the basis of documentation obtained from Obradovi\u0107, media reported that the Kru\u0161ik factory sold weapons under preferential prices to a company represented by Branko Stefanovi\u0107, the father of Serbian Interior Minister Neboj\u0161a Stefanovi\u0107. This worker was arrested in a spectacular action of the State Security Services on 18th September, but the public only learned about the arrest three weeks later.<\/p>\n
Representatives of the authorities, led by President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, state that the affair was falsely constructed and reject the possibility of Obradovi\u0107 being granted whistleblower status. Biljana Ivkovi\u0107, State secretary at the Interior Ministry which Stefanovi\u0107 heads, stated that Obradovi\u0107 isn’t only not a whistleblower, but that he is a spy, because he shared his revelations with foreigners.<\/p>\n
Former and current commissioners for information of public importance in Serbia, lawyer Rodoljub \u0160abi\u0107 and Milan Marinovi\u0107, agree that Obradovi\u0107 perhaps doesn’t satisfy the formal requirements for the status of a whistleblower, but note that the content of what he disclosed to journalists is much more important.<\/p>\n
A section of opposition politicians, however, consider him a whistleblower and support him publicly, while some independent media outlets are continuing to investigate the arms trade and revealing new insights into the suspicious operations of the Kru\u0161ik factory, not permitting the entire story to be forgotten. In the meantime, Obradovi\u0107 has been temporarily suspended from work at the factory, while his lawyer, Vladimir Gaji\u0107 \u2013 who says that his client is a \u201cprisoner of the regime\u201d – claims that the prosecutor conducting the investigation doesn’t know what crime he is charging Obradovi\u0107 with.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
