The trial of Dragoljub Simonovi\u0107, former president of the Belgrade suburban municipality of Grocka, who is charged with ordering last December’s arson attack on the house of \u017dig info portal journalist Milan Jovanovi\u0107, has been postponed until 24th<\/sup>\u00a0May, after Simonovi\u0107\u00a0and his lawyer failed to appear in court.<\/h2>\n

The court was told that Simonovi\u0107 has not received a subpoena, nor has the indictment handed to him.<\/p>\n

The indictment itself seeks that the court convict him to a maximum sentence of eight years imprisonment for ordering the firebomb attack on the journalist’s house.<\/p>\n

After his house was burned down in the middle of the night of 12th<\/sup>\u00a0December last year, journalist Milan Jovanovi\u0107 immediately expressed suspicion that Simonovi\u0107 was behind the attack, and that this was an act of revenge for articles published on the \u017dig info portal regarding alleged affairs involving the then municipal president.<\/p>\n

Simonovi\u0107 was arrested more than a month after Jovanovi\u0107 barely escaped the blaze with his life and found himself left homeless.<\/p>\n

The indictment also includes Simonovi\u0107’s alleged accomplices, with the prosecution seeking terms of five years each for two of the accused \u2013 Vladimir Mihajlovi\u0107 and Igor Novakovi\u0107 \u2013 and six years for Aleksandar Marinkovi\u0107, the defendant accused of directly perpetrating the attack.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
