They worked with mentors on the development of their synopses and working plans for the research and analytical stories they will work on during the next four months.<\/p>\n<p>The competition was intended for local media journalists who proposed good news stories of major importance to their local community, which they are willing to share and which relates to a topic that is insufficiently exposed or has not been addressed at all.<\/p>\n<p>The selected journalists include: <strong>Ljubica Joci\u0107 <\/strong>(portal Ju\u017ene vesti [Southern News], Ni\u0161), <strong>Violeta Gli\u0161i\u0107 <\/strong>(Kragujeva\u010dke novine [Kragujevac Newspaper], Kragujevac), <strong>Ana A\u0107imov <\/strong>(portal Moj Be\u010dej [My Be\u010dej], Be\u010dej), <strong>Natalija Jakovljevi\u0107-Ivani\u0107 <\/strong>(portal Maglo\u010dista\u010d [Fogclearer], Subotica) and <strong>Denis Kolund\u017eija <\/strong>(independent journalist, article to be published by Portal 021, Novi Sad). At this workshop they met with their mentors <strong>Antonella Rihom<\/strong> (freelance journalist), <strong>Branko<\/strong> <strong>\u010ce\u010den<\/strong> (director of the Centre for Investigative Reporting in Serbia &#8211; CINS), <strong>Dino Jahi\u0107<\/strong> (chief editor of CINS), <strong>Perica Gunji\u0107<\/strong> (editor-in-chief of portal Cenzolovka) and <strong>Zoran B. Nikoli\u0107<\/strong> (executive editor at Cenzolovka).<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was formally opened by <strong>Jelena \u0106uruvija<\/strong>, honorary president of the Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation, and <strong>Ilir Ga\u0161i<\/strong>, executive director of the Slavko \u0106uruvija Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, participants learned about the standards and procedures of investigative journalism, how to plan their research and compose a story synopsis, how the world\u2019s most serious media outlets check facts, everything about advanced searches of the internet and social networks, how to search the largest databases in Serbia, but also how to use a special online platform for cooperating with mentors.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the \u201cWhat is Serbia silent about?\u201d project is to improve the knowledge and skills of local web and print media journalists in terms of analytical and investigative journalism, as well as enhancing cooperation between local media outlets, including the mutual exchange of content.<\/p>\n<p>The project is implemented with the support of the Balkan Trust for Democracy of the German Marshall Fund of the United
