The trial based on the lawsuit of three men previously accused of murdering Slavko \u0106uruvija and subsequently acquitted was scheduled to take place on the anniversary of the day when the journalist was shot dead 26 years ago.<\/h2>\n<p>Journalists and citizens gathered in front of the Belgrade courthouse in support of the Foundation, having responded to the invitation of three associations of journalists and media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>S\u0106F Executive Director Ivana Stevanovi\u0107 said that the anniversary of the murder is this year taking place in an atmosphere that\u2019s reminiscent of 1999, when \u0106uruvija was gunned down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have open repression and illegal arrests of media columnists, calls for journalists to be arrested, threats from the highest positions of power levelled against prosecutors who won\u2019t arrest journalists, terrible crackdowns and targeting.
